Description
This encaustic tile is one of a very limited number of special edition tiles that have been preserved from the Palace of Westminster Encaustic Tile Conservation Project. Removed from the Peers' Lobby, it is among the largest of the encaustic tiles available for purchase.
Laid between 1847 to 1852 by Minton of Stoke-on-Trent, Palace of Westminster Encaustic Tiles are among the most iconic of A.W.N. Pugin's interior designs. The tiles incorporate a range of symbolic imagery associated with the four nations of the United Kingdom, as well heraldic devices of the Royal Family.
